Meet The Watches Blog Team
James Mercier (News Editor)
I am a university graduate from Bristol with a keen interest in time and horology (the science of measuring time). My grandfather gave me my first watch when I was five years old - it was an Ingersoll watch with a luminous dial and I pestered him for ages to get me it. It must have been a catalyst as now, as well as keeping an eye on the Watches.org.uk team, I run a small business mending watches and timepieces. I also enjoy working out at the gym and playing five-a-side football with friends.

I am a personal injury solicitor from the Isle of Man and love the part of my job where I can help people. I hope I can help people with my blog entries on Watches.org.uk as I adore watches and have a collection of nearly seven hundred that I have collected over the last ten or so years. When I’m not scouring jumble sales and eBay for second-hand watches, I like nothing better than sitting in front of my wood-burning stove working out whose birthday is coming up next so I can buy them a watch as a present. My friends know me well enough and always humour me when I tell them about the latest watches in my collection!

Having grown up in Central London I moved to the WestCountry after finishing my degree in Physics at Bristol University. I met my husband Charlie in the lab and share a passion for outdoor sports with him, especially off-road mountain biking and canoeing in the lake near our home. I am a qualified helicopter pilot and Air Ambulance volunteer. In my free time I read crime thrillers and support our local children’s “Get To School Safely” scheme. Time is an important element of my life as I am always rushing to meetings and have my flight plans and client schedules to run. I love the Omega Seamaster ladies watch Charlie gave me for Christmas as it looks good and is reliable and professional for work and when I relax. I have been looking forward to joining the Watches.org.uk content team to share my passion for accurate, reliable timekeeping and the obvious benefits this achieves.

I work in IT for a large company in London and love it on Fridays when I can come home to my wife and daughter in our seaside home in Exmouth. My wife and I recently discovered kitesurfing – an exciting sport where you surf on a small board and are pulled along by the wind. The rush is amazing! I found Watches.org.uk when I was looking for a Valentines gift for my wife and was really impressed. I asked to join the Watches.org.uk team as I have an interest in the subject and luckily they accepted! I enjoy writing to unwind after work and to pass the time while I am away from home.

Growing up in Swansea, I have been privileged to experience the beauty of the unspoilt countryside. I followed into my Dad’s carpentry business and am a qualified carpenter and joiner which I enjoy and can work my own hours. In my free time I write articles for various magazines and recently I began writing for the online medium. By joining the Watches.org.uk team I hope to contribute high-quality, entertaining articles that people will keep and refer to from time to time.

After a busy life in the city, I retired with my husband George and our two golden retrievers Tilly and Ben. While George is busy with his allotment, I keep active with walks along the sea front, yoga and coffee with friends. My eldest son recently gave me an iPad that I use to write short stories and poems. I came across the Watches.org.uk website and was delighted when they offered me the job of writing content for the website. I hope to bring an older viewpoint to bear and share my knowledge with the next generation of watch lovers.

Hi, I’m Sarah from Leeds and I joined the Watches.org.uk team originally to learn more about the different types of watches and improve my writing skills. I work in a High Street retailer in the centre of Leeds and I commute to work in my pink Ford Ka. Since I started writing for Watches.org.uk I find I’m always looking at people’s wrists to see if they’re wearing a watch. If I’m feeling brave, sometimes I’ll even ask what watch they’re wearing!
